Adult Small Groups
Bible Studies: In our calling to make disciples of Christ, we provide opportunities to dig deeper into the Scriptures through several Bible Studies:
- Men’s Tuesday Bible Study – This small group spends approximately nine month (September through May) each year in comprehensive study of a selected book of the Bible. Participants do weekly Scripture pre-reads, then meet as a group for informal discussion led by a facilitator. The group meets from 7:00 to 8:00 every Tuesday morning, with a short “bring-your-own-breakfast” and fellowship time preceding the discussion. Studies are organized around the Westminster Bible Companion series. Recent books studied include Genesis, Romans, and Revelation, and the group is currently in the Book of Acts.
- Tuesday Morning – this pastor-led study meets every Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30. The focus of each week’s study are the Scriptures that the pastor will use in the next Sunday’s sermon. The specific Scriptures are provided in the previous Sunday’s church bulletin for convenience and pre-gathering reflection. Participants include Macedonia members as well as individuals from other community churches.
Adult Sunday School
Our Sunday School classes are offered on Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:00am. From 10:00-10:30am, between Sunday School and the worship service, we offer light refreshments and a time of fellowship in the fellowship hall. All are invited!
The rEVOLution: This small group is open to all young adults. Our group gathers for a morning devotion, prayer, and fellowship, while discussing topics related to scripture and bible lessons. We welcome all young adults to join our fun and fellowship.
Hattie Franklin Class: Led by Carl Davis, the Hattie Franklin class studies the bible and discusses its application for our lives. We use an Adult Bible Studies series published by the United Methodist Church as a guideline for our discussions. Topics change quarterly to provide fresh new ways to grow in our relationship with God. Come grow with us this Sunday!
Open Door Class: The name of this Sunday school class reflects its desire to welcome members of all ages. For years, the class study focus has been the series of books written by famed author James Moore. The class has probably studied 30 of his more than 40 books. A class highlight a couple years ago was to visit another Cary church, where they had an opportunity to meet Dr. Moore in person and hear him speak. The class is proud of its long-standing tradition of providing the books from completed studies to support Christian ministries in the local prison system.
The Seekers Class is a thriving fellowship of adults who are “seeking” a closer relationship with God through study of the Scriptures, lively discussion, and deeper exploration of God’s calling to discipleship. We share strong bonds of friendship–united in our love of our Lord, our church, our community, our world, and one another–and enjoy times of fellowship outside of our Sunday morning classes as well. We invite all who are “seeking” to join us each Sunday morning! For more information, contact Susan Kinsey at email@example.com.
The Swifters group embodies the spirit of both outreach and hospitality. Initiated by Macedonia UMC 30 years ago, this group of about 30 folks now draws its membership from our own congregation and those of several other churches in the community. Macedonia hosts the meetings on the 4th Wednesday of each month, from 11:30 to 1:30 in the fellowship hall. Each monthly program is preceded by a covered dish lunch. Invited speakers cover topics ranging from health and community service to education and North Carolina history. One of their favorite recent presentations was by J.C. Knowles, famed local historian, auctioneer, and antiques appraiser. The group also travels together, with recent trips to Wilmington for a Cape Fear River cruise, to the Duplin Wineries, to fruit cake factory near Bear Creek, and to Wilson for Comedian Jeannie Robertson. For more information on Swifters contact Jay Huffman (919-851-4518) or Ken Sorensen (919-815-4321 or firstname.lastname@example.org).
