The Swifters was organized in early 1985 by our then Pastor, Jimmy Sutton. Twenty members of Macedonia met, and the Swifters was born. Fifteen members of the founders are still active members today.
The Executive Committee then consisted of a President, a Vice President/Program Chairman, and a Secretary-Treasurer. This has since been changed to a President, 2 Co-Vice Presidents, a Secretary and a Treasurer. Officers are elected for a 2-year term.
The Swifters meet the fourth Wednesday in each month at noon, except for the combined Nov/Dec meeting. Programs may consist of a speaker, musical entertainment and various other subjects.
We have two catered meals each year. Other meals are covered dishes by members unless a one-day trip is scheduled.
There are currently 115 members on the roll of which we have an average of 60-75 in attendance at each meeting. Our motto is “FOOD, FUN, FELLOWSHIP”. The Swifters is not just for Macedonia UMC members. Many of our members are from other churches and communities.
