Stop Hunger Now

Macedonia holds its annual Stop Hunger Now meals packaging event on the last Sunday of January. Stop Hunger Now is a Raleigh-based hunger relief organization that distributes food and other life-saving aid to vulnerable children and families around the world, and works to help end world hunger. The organization packages and ships meals to feed people in need through community-supported meal-packaging programs that engage half a million volunteers a year.

To date, Macedonia has packaged over 75,000 meals, including 16,200 meals in January 2015. Meals packaged by Macedonians have been shipped to Uganda, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and other countries experiencing drought, famine, and both man-made and natural disasters. Each fall, we embark on a 4-month fundraising campaign—anchored by our “change cup drive” —to raise the funds to package 16,000+ meals. Each meals costs $.29. On the day of our meals packaging event, we hold a fellowship lunch and then work with Stop Hunger Now staff to set up the meals packaging stations in our Fellowship Hall. Over the next few hours, we engage in uplifting, unifying service, trusting that the work of our hands will bring much needed nourishment to those facing the very real problem of hunger in our world. Macedonia’s annual Stop Hunger Now event is truly a highlight in the life of the church!

In Matthew 28: 19-20, Jesus told his disciples: “Therefore go and make disciples to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age.” Since 2005, Macedonia has fulfilled this commandment by sharing the love of Christ while serving those in need in Mexico, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and the Bahamas.
